Project goal ? Assistance to the Republic of Belarus in the implementation its obligations regarding public information on international conventions and initiatives in the field of chemicals and waste management, in particular the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, the Minamata Mercury Convention and the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM).

Project tasks:
1. Information support of the public and interested groups on topical issues of chemical safety and waste in Belarus. Activities within the framework of the task are aimed at the development, harmonization, direct preparation and dissemination of standardized information materials on a wide range of issues in the field of chemical safety and waste, both for residents of the Southeast region of the Mahileu oblast and for other target groups. Also, within the scope of the task, activities will be conducted to attract attention of target groups to the developed materials.
2. Support to the functioning of the public information center on chemical safety and waste in Belarus. As part of the implementation of the task, the Public Information Center for Chemical Safety and Waste will be supported, which provides constant free support for the population on these issues.
3. Support for the implementation of international conventions and instruments in the field of chemical safety in Belarus. Within the framework of this task, preparation and dissemination for interested analytical materials on the implementation of the international convention in Belarus will be carried out.
Expected results:
1. An established, coordinated and accessible online information set on chemical safety and waste issues;
2. Increased awareness of the public, organizations and authorities on the practical aspects of the effects of chemicals and wastes on health and the environment;
3. Reducing the negative impact of hazardous chemicals on human health and the environment through the implementation of specific measures recommended in the instructions.
