This project will greatly enhance the capacity of the fishers of Copper Bank Village to adapt and participate in new management interventions that seek sustainable use of our marine resources. Furthermore, there is the need to build credibility of these associations among their peers and for them to see the benefits of being organized and working in unity and solidarity.
This project will seek to develop facilities that could be used to enhance the routine activities of the villagers of Copper Bank and to directly benefit the fishermen that once or twice a year need to pull out their boats on shore for servicing and repairs. Having a winch and a ramp to pull vessels on shore will greatly facilitate this arduous and dangerous task conducted regularly.
Finally, giving the wives and children of these fishermen the incredible opportunity to experience first hand and see how hard their fathers/husbands work at sea and the constant dangers they face would create a greater appreciation of the work that they do and of the marine resources that provide their livelihoods. It will also create an opportunity for family members to appreciate the wonders of nature and the urge to protect it and use it sustainably.

The goal of this project is to build resilience in and secure the livelihoods of Copper Bank fishers so as to ensure the successful implementation of Managed Access . This will be achieved by 1.) encouraging sustainable fishing methods and having fishers maximize the use of the resources and make greater economic returns by fishing and landing whole, live lobster and participating in value adding initiatives being spearheaded by Government and other agencies. 2.) Compliance of fishers to meet the conditions of their fisherfolk license by providing them with the tools and materials they need to comply with said requirements (such as proper catch data submission and vessel color coding).
