Prevention of Deforestation through Engaging Income Generation Activities in Arsi Nagelle Woreda, Bombaso Reji Kebele
The Proposed project, Prevention of land degradation and promoting sustainable Forest Development through engaging in income generating activities is located between 7o 9?-7 41?N latitude 38o 25?- 38o 54?E longitudes in Bombaso Reji kebele , Arsi Nagelle district ,West Arsi Zone of Oromia National Regional State. The overriding problem of the area is degradation of natural resources specially deforestation contributing to erosion and siltation of lake Langano through Huluka and Awade River. Land degradation cased due to anthropocentric action has led to reduction of productivity which leads to increase poverty. On the other hand, population pressure has led the dwellers to mismanage the natural resources especially expanding land for agricultural purposes, grazing land, charcoal making and for construction, fuel wood needs. Due to these factors, the soil fertility of the area has declined which leading to food and siltation hazard. In order to address these problems, the community of the kebele organized itself into Community Based Organization (CBO) and got legal entity form the district Cooperative Office to rehabilitate the severely degraded of 7.61ha. The CBO closed the area from human and livestock interference to enhance natural resources regeneration. The target group of this project is going to address¬ 2005 household (102 females 103 male or generally 669 families.
