The Proposed project, Prevention of land degradation and promoting sustainable Forest Development through engaging in income generating activities is located between 7o 9?-7 41?N latitude 38o 25?- 38o 54?E longitudes in central Rift valley in Gale kelo kebeles, Arsi Nagelle district ,West Arsi Zone of Oromia National Regional State. which is supposed to work on 14.5 hectors of land ,Arsi Nagelle district ,West Arsi Zone of Oromia National Regional state. The overriding problem of the area is degradation of natural resources specially deforestation contributing to erosion and siltation of Abjeta and shalla lake. Land degradation cased due to anthropogenic action especially in research of expanding land for agricultural purposes, grazing land, charcoal making and for construction, fuel wood needs. has led to reduction of productivity which leads to increase poverty. In order to address these problems, the community of the kebele organized itself into Community Based Organization (CBO) and got legal entity form the district Cooperative Office to rehabilitate the severely degraded land and the government gave 14.5ha of land. The CBO closed the area from human and livestock interferences to enhance natural resources regeneration. This project is, therefore, envisaged to reverse this situation by implementing relevant remedial measures such as soil and water conservation measures, creating income generating activities within the closed area which help to improve the livelihoods of the members of the CBO. The target group of this project is going to address 230 HHS 721 families which comprise 52 females 78 male.
