KIBORIAN REFORESTATION AND BEEKEEPING PROJECT
KIBORIAN REFORESTATION AND BEEKEEPING PROJECT
Context:
The project seeks to improve livelihoods and climate change resilience by addressing the problem of poor soils and poor production which drive some people to ruthlessly invade forests and mountains to seek for life due to soil fertility. Unfortunately, these people engage in logging and charcoal affecting the water catchment in the area, which is the only source of water for 100,000 people living in 30 adjacent communities. This sounds to be a creeping threat and an alarm to desertification to most parts of the country especially in Mpwapwa and Kongwa districts. The depletion of ground cover due to uncontrolled concentration of livestock and the destruction of water sources also contribute to desertification. This calls for urgent actions to restore the situation.
