UP-SCALING ELECTIFICATION THROUGH SOLAR ENERGY SYSTEMS
Context:
The projected impacts of climate change are expected to worsen the situation of power supply in the country. The only reliable option Tanzania should harness is to explore potentials for clean energy sources e.g. geothermal, wind, solar, clean coal, and natural gases, through policy-making and implementation that will scale up renewable energy utilization and accelerate electricity access to wider Tanzanian population particularly in rural areas. This project envisages to electrify households and establish different Income Generating Activities in Malolo ?B? village as an additional effort complementing to the initial project activities. Together with the electrification of households and establishment of Income Generating Activities (IGAs), TAYEN intends to establish a tree nursery (with 3000 seedlings) so as to complement efforts for climate change mitigation in the country. This will certainly, enhance the villages? community well-being and poverty reduction for sustainable development especially in this face of climate change.
About the Proponent:
Tanzania Youth Environmental Network (TAYEN) is a registered charitable and non-profit Non-Governmental Organization registered by the government of Tanzania under the section 12 (2) of Act No. 24 of 2002.TAYEN was registered on 25th August 2008, with registration number 00NGO/02396. The organization is legally registered to operate in Tanzania Mainland in environmental conservation and community development projects.
Project?s Primary Objective:
The main objective of the proposed project is to improve community livelihoods of Malolo ?B? villagers through solar power electrification in the village, to build a resilient community by strengthening their adaptive capacity and promoting climate change mitigation.
Project specific objectives:
? Capacitating Malolo ?B? Villagers in terms of knowledge on how to use the available resources and opportunities to diversify their livelihood activities as a way of adaptation to climate change.
? Installation of solar photovoltaic home lighting systems to three sub villages of Malolo ?B? Village.
? Establish and undertake Income Generating Activities (IGAs) in the three sub villages of Malolo ?B? Village
? Establish tree nurseries for the three sub-villages meant for environmental conservation and community?s livelihoods.
