INSTALLATION OF 14.5KW SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC POWER BACKUP SYSTEM FOR MAHENGE DISTRICT HOSPITAL
Context:
Mahenge District Hospital is connected to the electricity grid. It is at the end of the national grid Kidatu-Mahenge line. The supply of grid electricity is not reliable in the sense that the grid fails often. It fails at the rate of 3 days/week which is quite high if you were to seriously provide good health services at the District Hospital. The grid fails mainly due to the reasons that national utility has low generation compared to the demands and aged grid infrastructures that fails quite often during rainy season. This project therefore will contribute to the realization of national and international policies, goals and strategies through Installation of 14.5kW Solar Photovoltaic Power Backup System for Mahenge District Hospital.
About the proponent:
SolidarMed was registered in the year 1973. It has been established in Tanzania under the Registrar of societies under the Ministry of Home Affairs with certificate of Registration No. 10118. It is committed to the environment and health in southern Africa and improves environment and health care for 1.5 million people in Lesotho, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Project?s primary objective:
The main objective of this project is to increase the quality of health services in Ulanga District
Project?s purpose:
Increase the quality of health services
Project specific objectives:
? To install 14.5kW solar photovoltaic system for Mahenge hospital to increase electricity availability
? To reduce negative environmental impacts resulting from green house gases
Implementation strategies:
? Replace the conventional lights with energy saving bulbs
? Install 14.5kW solar photovoltaic in addition pure sine water inverter/charger 8kVA/48V
? Conduct end user training on safety measures
Project sustainability strategies:
? Having service and maintenance personnel in place
? End user training for avoiding making mistakes
? The office of the DMO will dedicate a budget line for repair and maintenance
Anticipated project results:
? Environmentally friendly and reliable source of electricity is installed
? Cost of electricity is reduced
? Emergency services are provided without interruption
