'Strengthening The Community Energy Garden System, An Approach Toward Conservation of Natural Resources
Project goal:
To conserve natural resources (in this case : biodiversity) in protected forest.
Project objective :
1. To conserve biodiversity through planting local as well as productive plants;
2. To decrease community dependency on forest?s resources (trees/branches) to be used as fire wood;
3. To increase local community participation in natural resources and energy conservation;
4. To decrease biomass/farming waste and turn it into potential raw material for briquette
5. To develop alternative energy source from biomass and produce briquette
6. To provide alternative energy source to be used for community
7. To provide simple technology cooker to be used in cooking
Activities to be carried out under the project :
1. Preparation.
a) Permit processing;
b) Study on secondary data;
c) Program socialization (with formal and non-formal leaders);
d) Local potential identification through field survey conducted;
e) Training materials and methods preparation together with community.
2. Local training and education in the field.
a) Training and workshop on traditional energy garden, briquette production and
woodstove energy save
b) Integrated natural conservation effort - energy garden, biomass briquette and
energy efficiency cooker.
3. Outreach Approach.
a) Workshop participated by stakeholders (community, local government authority, related institution);
b) Replication of the succeed result to the surrounding villages.
4. Technical Assistance.
a) Sample of traditional energy garden and energy efficiency cooker;
b) Plants nursery techniques;
c) Planting and land management techniques;
d) Biomass briquette production.
5. Evaluation and Reporting.
Project Participants and/or beneficiaries :
1. RMI (the Indonesian Institute for Forest & Environment).
2. Community in Cisarua and Curug Bitung villages, Nanggung sub-district, Bogor,
West Java.
Anticipated result of the project :
1. A permit to be granted by local government authority;
2. Increased in community understanding in conserving natural resources especially
biodiversity and energy efficiency;
3. Well spread information on natural resources conservation concept;
4. Increased in community participation to adopt and replicate traditional energy
garden;
5. Decreased in community dependency on fire wood available in protected forest;
6. Increased in income of the community through selling products from trees planted
