Project Results

Integrated fish farming blends on land fish farming and conservation of the environment. This is an innovative approach to rearing fish and ensure that the surrounding environment is conserved. In this particular project, its surrounding environment is the Lake Victoria where there is a lot of degradation of the lake shores; pollution from lake adjacent farms and households; overfishing, illegal fishing and fishing by poison. Therefore, this project demonstrated to its target local communities on how they can be able to get fish without degrading their immediate environment. Project results are exemplary. Lake shores are well conserved. The Beach Management Unit (BMU), which conducts surveillance against environment defaulters is stronger after the project as compared to their situation before the project. Illegal fishing and fishing by using poison has been reduced.
