Study and Analysis on Economics-Social and Environmental Impact from Banana farm at Bokeo and Luaangnamtha Province in Northern of Lao PDR
There are many Chinese businessmen coming to invest in banana plantations in the northern part of Laos in the form of investment on land concession with rental of the land rights from villagers for agriculture. However, this agricultural project still lacks proper technical inputs for banana plantations as the protection and management of the environment are still very low, because they cannot control the use of herbicides and pesticides (Carbendazim, Glyphoshate, Paraquat, Dicofol, chlorpyrifos, Cypermethrin, AMPA). These types of chemicals can stay in the environment for a long time. In the rainy season it will spread and flow into the river as dangerous and poisons chemical to human health and the environment. The project aims to promote banana farms without chemical fertilizer use in target villages of Ban Bounhoung, Ban Viengsavanh, Ban Viengkham, Tonperng District, Bokeo Province and Luanamtha Province. Therefore, the local authority must be given the advice and control on the use of dangerous chemicals, including the rule and regulation for dissemination of the side effect from chemical use in banana farms on human health and environment.
