STRENGTHENING INCLUSION AND LIVELIHOOD DIVERSIFICATION TO SUPPORT CONSERVATION OF JOZANI CHWAKA BAY NATIONAL PARK
Project?s Objective:
To support conservation of Jozani ecosystem through diversification and improvement of the livelihood base of adjacent local communities
Implementation Strategies:
1. Train through demonstration, alternative income generation activities specifically. Fish farming; Organic farming and greenhouse farming.
2. Promote entrepreneurship skills so that activities are implemented on profitable basis
3. Sensitize local communities on the values of conservation so that they are inspired to do conservation as a matter of concern.
Project Sustainability Strategies:
? Financial sustainability: Proposed projects have income generation dimension. This will promote financial sustainability
? Social sustainability: Proposed projects will address food and income poverty. This will promote social sustainability.
? Institutional sustainability: The proposed projects will increase conservation learning and new project management experiences. This will promote institutional sustainability.
Anticipated project results:
? Food security will be ensured to 385 households
? Sale of fish (from fish ponds) and vegetables (from greenhouses) will increase household incomes, which in turn will improve livelihoods
? Spirit of community participation will be enhanced through community participation in Common activities
? Project will promote women inclusion in conservation
? New decent job opportunities (How many?) will be created for Youths
? Cordial relationship between National Park Authorities and adjacent communities strengthened.
