IMPROVING COMMUNITY LIVELIHOODS THROUGH ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND CLIMATE CHANGE MITIGATION, BAGAMOYO.
Project?s Primary Objective:
To reduce the rate of deforestation and contribute to sustainable environment management for conservation and poverty reduction.
Implementation Strategies:
1. Develop Village Land Use Plan
2. Conduct training on environment conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation
3. Drill water borehole to enhance availability of water in the village
4. Establish tree nurseries to increase vegetation cover in the village
5. Provide capacity building for off-farm Income Generation Activities for women and youths
Project sustainability strategies:
1. Land Use Plans are foundation stones for sustainable development in villages
2. Over 4,000 trees to be planted will include fruit, timber and woodfuel type of trees. Apart from domestic value, such trees will be able to generate income, which is key for sustainable development
3. Training in conservation, mitigation and adaptation enriches human capital, which derives benefits to perpetuity.
Anticipated project Results:
1. Vikuge village will get its own land use plan. Among other benefits, the land use plan will reduce conflicts between farmers and pastoralists
2. Over 90 villages will acquire knowledge and practical skills on environment conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation techniques.
3. Water availability in the village for domestic, livestock and tree nurturing will be increased through drilling of the water borehole
4. Vegetation cover around the village will be increased through planting of over 4,000 trees
5. 200 households will have their income increased by 80% through operating conservation based Income Generation Activities
