Strengthening of existing water supply services for Mbala-Chamakweza community for local communities and their livestock
Project?s Primary Objective:

To strengthen existing water supply services ar Mbala-Chamakweza for improved good health and reduction of conflicts between pastoralists and farmers.

Implementation Strategies:

1. Expand capacity of cattle drinking trough
2. Expand domestic water drawing kiosks
3. Establish cattle dip to improve cattle health
4. Increase volume of water by complimenting supply with connection to Chalinze Water Supply line, a distance of 1,5 km.
5. Strengthen Community Water Governance through formation of Community Owned Water Supply Organization (COWSO) and Water Users Association (WUA)
6. Put in place a sound O & M system with a structured User Fee Modality.

Project Sustainability Strategies:

1. This is a demand-driven type of a project, which will be valued and guarded by all members of the local communities
2. A sound O & M system will ensure that the facilities last long
3. A water fee modality will establish a water fund that will contribute to financial sustainability of the project
4. Use of solar for water pumping will minimize costs of O & M
5. A strong COWSO and WUA will strengthen water governance, which will provide strong leadership for sustainability of the project facilities

Anticipated project Results:

1. Over 4,000 people will have easy access to clean and safe water
2. Over 60,000 livestock will have access to water on daily basis
3. Conflicts between pastoralists and farmers will be solved on sustainable basis
4. School children that help parents with animal watering will get time to attend classes and will not miss school
5. The scourge of water borne diseases mainly cholera, dysentery and diarrhea will be decreased by more than 80%
