Like many other cities of the world, the Laotian capital, with its improving economy and standard of living, is not spared from the scourge of urban living: the proliferation of plastics and products bottled or wrapped in plastics. The biggest problem is that wrappers or bottles made of plastic materials are carelessly thrown just about anywhere. Most of them end up clogging canals and waterways or polluting the waters of the mighty Mekong River. With the negative impacts of inappropriate disposal on public health and the air and water closer to home, it is certainly an issue increasingly on the radar. The aims of project is to contribute and help to address the garbage issue by raising awareness of garbage separation/management in 15 target schools in 3 different provinces namely: Vientiane capital, Vientiane province and Borikhamsay province. We would like to show good practice of garbage separation in our 15 target schools, so that we can scale up to other schools in future if possible. During the project period, some good model project schools will be selected to show best practice of garbage separation and school environment protection. In this connection, Peer school visits will be arranged/invited to Non-project support schools for lesson learned and it is expected that these non-project support schools can apply the knowledge of garbage separation and school environment projection in their schools and communities in future for sustainability.
