MANGROVE CONSERVATION PROGRAM THROUGH CO-MANAGEMENT WITH YOUTHS IN TARITIPAN
MANGROVE CONSERVATION PROGRAM THROUGH CO-MANAGEMENT WITH YOUTHS IN TARITIPAN
Kampung Tartipan is covered with mangrove forest faced with illegal mangrove cutting for charcoal production. This will destroy mangrove forest and can reduce marine resources as the mangrove are their habitat.
This project is focusing on survey and documentation of baseline data for Kg. Taritipan that will support ANBATAR?s request for co-management of the areas. The surveys and documentation include biodiversity, culture and tradition which will form the basis for further development of co-management plan and potentially for environmental education and eco-tourism. Besides that, ANBATAR will provide capacity building for the members to equipped with necessary knowledge and skill in managing the area.
Long-term plan for ANBATAR will be developed social entrepreneurship. One way to minimize these humaninduced pressures while promoting mangrove conservation is through social entrepreneurship that is environmentally friendly and conserves biodiversity. They are enterprises that depend on biodiversity, natural resources, and ecosystem goods and services, and therefore provide incentives to protect these resources from internal and external threats. Income generated from this motivates community to conscientiously protect biodiversity to maintain that income. Therefore, ANBATAR are focussing on building support for the Tun Mustapha Park via mangroves conservation and exploring eco-tourism as part of social entrepreneurship and support the community income to future eco-tourism project.
