Conservation and Rehabilitation of the River
The main purpose of this project proposal is to save our village river by replanting trees along the river banks to avoid soil erosion, protect it from contamination/pollution. This river is a main source of drinking water for our village and a food security in terms of eels, shrimps, etc. It is also source of income for our village as they can sell the river shrimps to hotels and at the market. It has been observed that during heavy rain, the soil erosion around the river banks is quite huge. The other cause of this soil erosion and river contamination is the village?s plantation which are located close to the river banks. There is a need to establish a clear boundary between the river bank and the plantations of the villagers.
The other focus of this project is to educate and further the knowledge of our young people as well as the future generation on why it is important to preserve our natural resources (river as source of food/income) and protect our environment. The youth should be well educated on how to maintain and preserve the natural environment by following procedures set the MNRE and GEF-SGP. Learn to appreciate the value of the environment and make good use of the funding that will be provided by GEF-SGP.
