Results:

Describe to what extent the objectives of the Agreement were accomplished:

1. Conduct introductory workshops to introduce the project to the targeted local community and the reverent ministries, institutes and NGO?s institutes.

Four introductory workshops to the project concept on the February and march 2018 were hold it at the Village council in Faqou?a and more than 135 participants from all of the sector ?GO?s, NGO?s , schools, and other local institutes from the district of Jenin and from other Districts from west bank


2. Survey Fauna and Flora in the targeted area to identify the endangered species.

Few experts of the Flora and Fauna share the wildlife Survey such as : Dr Khalid Sawalha, Dr Samer Jarar, Dr Rolla Jadallah ,Imad Atrash ,Moufeed Jalghom, Mohammad Omri ,Do?a Khatib and other British ornithologist and more than 200 students (Biology and Bio-technology) were trained in Wildlife Survey from the site of the project from 6 universities from West bank and around at least 5000 photos were taken from the area and around 115 flora species (including a 12 rare and endangered species were recorded it) , 95 bird species 9 including 18 bird rare and endangered species were recorded it), 35 mammals species(including a rare and endangered species were recorded it) , 20 insect species and 25 reptiles and amphibians.

3. Increase 30 University students awareness on Flora and fauna through conducting 5 scientific field trips and 6 workshops.

Training of students about collecting data and using the observation.org to save our data. .The students of the
o The Arab American University - Jenin
o The Al-Quds University ?Jerusalem.

The students were also participated at this survey and learning more about the site and
Location, around 70 students (50 females and 20 males) were sharing these activities
During 8 days of work in different sessions of the year.

They students have learned some information about the introduction of the scientist
Classification of the Birds (Ornithologist-Botanist and Zoology) from the project expert>

In addition to that the students were in the field with the project expert of the Flora
and fauna and they have learned about the introduction to the flora and fauna of
Palestine in general and about different ecosystem and they walked through the trail and
visited the other area nearby Faqqua such as Jalboun, Arbouna, Dier Ghazalah, they
have been realized 3 different ecosystems in the Area: Merj Ben Amer (such as Typha
domingensis), The Mediterranean system (such as the carob) and the eastern Slops
(Zuzfus) with some of the different of the plant Species from the filed

By the end of these meeting and fieldtrips around 55 working hours the students were
attend it and have been in the field for the real bird-watching and flora clarifications. And
they helped to have the checklist of the flora and fauna species.


4. Increase knowledge of 15 local guides on ecotourism through conducting 5 scientific field trips trainings and 5 workshops.

Around 14 participants (8 males and 6 females) from different back ground were participated at these activities from: Faqou?a, dier Ghazalah, Arana, East Jenin, Zababdah Deir Abu Daeef, Jalma and Arbouna, the have learned about: ecotourism in Palestine and the area , Flora and fauna Classification, geography and Topography of Palestine, History of the project area and around 120 working hours they have been involved and other 2 field trips to Hebron and Bethlehem they visited to learn more about the other Biodiversity and ecosystems in Palestine(Bethlehem including St Saba Monastery-Jerusalem wilderness ,Batter as a cultural heritage site and Salmon Pools) and Hebron Distract-Wadi Quff and Bani Naeem where is the GEF project their).
The group started to have a pioneer field trips from the area and they have been involved with the spring 29019 field visit from all over the west bank and some initiative by themselves to start these trip as their future plans and around 12 field trips they have involved, and some of them get some fees for their joining the trips.



5- Produce and publish a book?500? copies about the Flora and Fauna?18*24* cm
with 48 pages or more depend on the flora and fauna survey.

A colored Field Guide book (it contain more than 180 photos from the project area) were published with 124 pages with the size of 14*20 cm and 680 copies, the guide mostly with photos from the land scape, Flora, Fauna, including Birds, plants, mammals, Reptiles, amphibians, and Insect, there collected from the area and more than 9 photographers joined the effort of publishing the book plus the effort of the Village council and EQA
8 of experts have been involved in preparing the data from the filed survey, and all of them have been individuals or with the students collecting data.
The book will be distributed among the national institute, NGO?s and GO?s freely and other Universities during the year around.


6- Define in coordination with EQA and ministry of agriculture 15-18 km trails and mark the site to attract the ecotourism in the area.

We have been achieved to draw a map of a 27.5 km using the GPS starting and in cooperation with our local and GO?s partners from east of Jenin? Jalama Circle and go through all of the 10 Villages around Merj ben Amer starting from jamal, Arana, Arbouna, Dier Gassanah, Faqou?a, Jalboun, Beit Qad (North and South) Al Mogheir, dier Abu daeef and then to jalama Circle) and other one inside the village of Faqou?a around 2.5 km.
The most natural walking trails in the area located in the agriculture roads and not in the field so the people can easily move without destroying the habitat and it was approved from all of the partners.

7- Produce colored map and boards for the area,

A colored mad were develop it with EQA team and prepared according to EAQ criteria and were use it for the signboard.




8- Install 2 signboards for the project.

8 Signboard (3 -100cm*100cm+ 2 150cm* 200*+ 3 40cm*60cm) were installed in the area starting from the Village council in the central of the Village and then to the education Iris garden through the 2.5 Km.


9- Prepare and produce 5 mints documentary film in Arabic and English about the project activities.

A contract was signed with the ElMahed TV from Bethlehem to document all of the project activities and production for 6 mints.

The film is ready and have a good Screenplay and approved by our partners, the film contains most of the activities during the project period with some of the flora and fauna, the film was uploaded in the you tube channel and presented during the final meeting in Ramallah

The film has 4 interviews from the participants of the project activities including the GEF focal point and a field Guide, Council staff, mammal?s expert, and shows the other activities.

10- Conduct Faqou?a Iris photo competition and exhibition in Jenin and Ramallah.

A Photo competition were announced during the first spring 2018 and it was opened for the public, more than 350 participant/photographers joined this effort. the winners are who took photos of the Butterfly and the Iris, 7 winners they have been awarded lab tops or a tablet donated from the institute and organization in Palestine

A small committee from EQA, PWLS and Village council were establish and they chose 7 winners in cooperation with other institute such as the basmaet Khair(contributed 0ne tablet) ,Palestinian Council for Creativity and Excellence 9 five tablets) and one Lap Top from the Village Council. The Winner Mr. Rashid Marii donate his prize to a new competition between Faqou?a? schools (boys and girls) and the winners were from the Girls Secondary School.

11. Conduct 4 filed trips for 200 school students to increase their awareness on the importance of the biodiversity.

11.1 8 schools students were planned and visited the site from villages around the area and from
Bethlehem, Jerusalem districts during the project period and a total of 350 students has been in the area.
11.2 around 200 T shirts and the same number of Hats with the partner?s logos and the flower of Iris were produced and distributed among the participants including the school students, GO?s, NG?s and others.


12. Rehabilitate and Establish 10 km educational garden to protect Faqou?a iris and indigenous species of the area.

The Village Council of Faqqua donate of 4 donum of land to be as an educational Garden to protect the plant species and the land scape, a small infrastructure were done during the project period and start to have a flora survey, at least 35 plant species were observed and some of them are rare and engorged such as Biarum pyrani, Faqoua iris, Cyclamen, Allium ampeloprasom, Gundelia tournefortiietc..

The educational garden for the iris will play a good role in the coming future for many issues:
? As location to replant the different colors of the Iris and to study it at the laboratory by the universities students if there is a new sub species or will be the same and at least it will be for the coming five years.
? A site where is the visitors can see the Iris during the flowering session.
? A site where is the students will identify the other flora rare and endeared species
? A site where will be a good place for a bird watching during the year around and during the bird migration.


13. Conduct final workshop to present results of all the activities and evaluate the project.
