Integrated Solid Waste Management in a Rural Community in Mount Lebanon: Berbara Municipality – Jbeil
Throughout the project Byblos Ecologia will work jointly with the Berbara Municipality to 1) Establish a baseline on solid waste production by type and quantity; 2) Develop an ISWM program based on data gathered; 3) Train the Municipality on the implementation of the Program; 4)Purchase the appropriate number of bins and distribute them based on the Program; 5) Create employment opportunities through ISWM; 6) Develop, test then validate the waste collection, treatment and disposal program; 7) Introduce/amend techniques as required and necessary; 8) Continuously integrate the local community in the process and train and raise its awareness on the Program and its benefits; 9) Invite and engage surrounding communities and local authorities in all awareness raising activities; 10) Develop replicability guidelines to be shared with surrounding communities and municipalities and at national level (guidelines will be published on the BE and Municipality websites and social media pages).
More specifically, training will be provided to: the citizens, the garbage collectors and the municipality.
