Removal of obstacles with local community for a sustainable conservation of Biological Diversity on Palm Islands Nature Reserve
Removal of obstacles with local community for a sustainable conservation of Biological Diversity on Palm Islands Nature Reserve
this project relies on local communities to implement 6 main self-explained inter-related activities:
1) Development of an appreciation of biodiversity and natural resources of the reserve among local communities, stakeholders and public,
2) Development of a knowledge base built on communities that will sustain natural resources and lead to management planning,
3) Production of awareness and education materials,
4) Development of a Law enforcement plan with assigned tasks to Fishermen syndicate in order to reduce turtles by-catch, dynamiting, night fishing with torches and spear guns, illegal collection of bird eggs, turtle eggs and unsustainable collection of mollusks,
5) Enablement of Internal local community conditions that are key localized factors to provide the foundation necessary for the community-based conservation to thrive.
6) Communicating results of the project to emphasize sustainability, scalability and replicability of the project.
This project will contribute to reducing poaching and eliminate other illegal practices (illegal hunting, illegal fishing, overexploitation, illegal taking, etc.) through the involvement of the local communities in the management of the reserve and keeping them with a sense of ownership.
