Decreased Deforestation through Construction of Fuel Efficient Stoves
The nature of the proposed activity is about awareness and mobilization, capacity building on FES and protection of forest (Juniper Trees) for environment protection in target area of district Ziarat. The specific objective of the proposed project are as following;
To aware and sensitize the local communities about the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in district Ziarat;
To train 100 local women in union councils Choutair & Kaza in district Ziarat on Fuel Efficient Stove (FES) making; and
To form and strengthen village level committees for the distribution of FES material and forest management.
Activity-1 Project Opening seminar: KWS will conduct project opening seminar in district Ziarat for the protection of forests (epically Juniper tree deforestation) and improve the environment and climate change to create awareness among local community?s stakeholders. Different stakeholders (who belongs to environment and climate change departments, local CBOs/CSOs representatives, local media persons, local political leaders, school and colleges teachers, students and general public (women and Men) will participate in the seminar. KWS Project team will aware and sensitize about project aim and objectives.
Activit-2 Community awareness sessions about conservation and sustainable use of natural resources: KWS will conduct awareness sessions with local inhabitants on deforestation, importance of juniper trees for soil conservation, climate change, conservation education and knowledge about fuel efficient stove. 20 session will be conducted at village level.
Activitiy-3 Introduction of smokeless Fuel Efficient Stoves by holding awareness workshops: KWS will hold smokeless fuel efficient stove awareness workshops with target area women. Project team with the support of technical person will aware the women about FES importance for health system, less use of fire woods, more strong for heat and capable for summer and winter seasons. KWS will organize 20 awareness workshop in the targeted community. Ten sessions in each target union councils.
Activity-4 identification, selection and training of women: KWS will identify and select the local potential women for Fuel Efficient stove construction training. Women will be identified and selected from awareness workshop (mention above). 100 women will be selected from 20 target villages/settlements (on average 5 women per village). These will be trained on the skills related to making of ?Fuel Efficient Stoves?. Similarly, 600 households will be selected for provision of technical guidance and materials for construction of ?Fuel Efficient Stoves?. Out of the selected 600 households 100 households will be of those women who will be trained on the skills of making ?Fuel Efficient Stoves?. KWS will arrange 4 workshops for training of 100 women on making of ?Fuel Efficient Stoves?-FES. Each workshop will be of three days duration and 25 women will be trained in one workshop. KWS will hire a trainer/mason who has substantial knowledge, understanding and skills on stove making.
Activity-5: Procurement of material: KWS will procure the required materials for construction of ?Fuel Efficient Stoves?. As a strategy, KWS will ensure that the local materials are used and procured for construction of ?Fuel Efficient Stoves?. FES cooking stove metal topsides with inter locking bricks lining with 18? ? 12?width, 32-½ length and 9 height. The material will include: Metal Doors & dampers, Hinges, Cement Pipes, Top Cover, Mold for fire grate, and Mold for ceramic brick and Mold for air accelerator. The complete material will be packages as ?Material Package?. One Material Package will be for one family/household.
Activty-6: Distribution of material to selected beneficiary households: Once the material is procured, it will be distributed to the 600 beneficiary households. One family/household will be provided one ?Material Package?.
Activity-7: Provision of on-site technical guidance: KWS will provide on-site technical guidance to the selected households for the construction of ?Fuel Efficient Stoves?. This guidance will be provided through the same trainer who has trained 100 women. In addition, the project team will provide guidance and the trained women in each of the target community.
Activity-8: Construction of ?Fuel Efficient Stoves? (FES): After receiving the Material Package, the beneficiary?s families will start constructing the ?Fuel Efficient Stoves (FES) in their homes. The KWS team and trained women will monitor the construction process.
Activity-9 Formation Forest Protection & management Committees (FPCs): KWS will form Forest Protection & management Committees in targeted village for the protection of unique generation of juniper trees and more tree plant of juniper. KWS will aware and sensitize the committee?s members about the importance of forest for the environment protection and safety of unique generation of juniper trees. KWS will create liaison of these committees with government forest department for the protection of forest. With the help of government department committee members will plant more trees of juniper in the target area.
