Energy Efficient, Smokeless Solar Stoves Project
The mainobjective of the proposed project is to educate local farmers/ community members (women/ men) on conservation of forests for environment protection and using renewable energy to save forests. While immediate objectives of project are:
? To reduce wood consumption to a sustainable level so as to allow recovery of forests through training of community members/ women
? To provide solar stoves/ cookers (Environment/Forest conserving) to 25 households
? To reduce indoor air pollution from wood & charcoal smoke and avoid its harmful effects on health
? To raise awareness among public through workshops and IEC material dissemination
? To orient20 rural farmers/ poachers (women/ men) on forest preservation/ tree planting
? To contribute to the preservation of wood resources/ forests via plantation 0f 500 pine plants
? To empower participating women groups by including them in the project activities
This project will carry out project activities like training and education, awareness-raising through workshops and distribution of brochures, provision of Environment conserving solar cookers. The detail about proposed project activities is as follows:
TRAINING AND EDUCATION:
ECDO will organize 2 one-day training sessions for rural communities? leaders, Stakeholders and local population on Environmental conservation Education and importance of Environment/ Forest conserving, and solar stoves. The purpose of these training sessions is to educate the participants regarding environment / forest conservation and use of renewable energy resources.
A total of 50 participants (50% women) will be educated in two training sessions; 25 participants in each session. These training sessions will be organized at respective communities at central location. A resource person will be hired who will be responsible for developing training contents/ manual and conducting sessions.
TREE PLANTING:
ECDO intends to plant about 500 tree species of pine in the rural communities in the mount of Kalam, Swat as to restore the environment and creating a forest in order to protect the biodiversity for posterity.
For this purpose ECDO will orient 10 local farmers/ poachers regarding tree planting and forest conservation. After proper orientation, ECDP will provide plants to these farmers/ poachers who will plant those in their surrounding areas/ land.
IEC MATERIAL PRINTING AND DISSEMINATION
ECDO will develop messages regarding forest conservation, importance of renewable energy and tree planting. The messages will be printed in form of brochures and these brochures will be disseminated among target communities for educating them regarding project theme. 1000 brochures will be printed and disseminated.
AWARENESS RAISING WORKSHOP
ECDO will organize two workshops (of duration 3 to 4 hours) to train teachers, volunteers from community specifically women using the training guide on conservation education, training the leaders in the rural communities on conservation Education and Environment conserving solar cookers .
In these workshops about 100 participants will be educated who will further educate their family members and their community members. ECDO staff will be responsible for organizing these workshops.
PROVISION OF 20 ENERGY EFFICIENT, SMOKELESS SOLAR STOVES
As the community members will be trained on appropriate handling of Environment/Forest conserving solar cookers to reduce the rate of deforestation and the amount of wood fuel consumption at home; hence SCSP plans to provide 20 Environment/Forest conserving solar cookers to selected community members for practical experiencing renewable energy for cooking. This will motivate other community members to use renewable energy equipment instead of cutting forest and using wood as source of fuel.
Target beneficiaries:
The direct beneficiaries of the proposed project will be:
- 150 community members/ stakeholders trained in Training and Workshops
- 20 households benefited by provisions of Solar Cookers
- 1000 community members/ families are informed in respective UC about project theme via IEC
While the number of indirect beneficiaries will be huge, as the information and education got by direct beneficiaries will be shared further with other community as well as with family members. Similarly, through utilizing Solar Cookers all the members of households will be benefiting.
