"Innovative agro-ecological practices and promotion of sustainable livelihoods through pollinator inorporation in communities surrounding Kiang West National Park".
This project seeks to establish agro-ecological land management by rural farmers in the communities surrounding Kiang West National Park. These farmers are currently engaged in subsistence level farming, gardening and forestry. The agro-ecological approach focuses on incorporating pollinators; these are key to the production of crops and generation of income in agricultural and conserved forest spaces. Project outputs/outcomes will include the following:
- Degraded ecosystems in the landscape/seascape will be restored through best environmental practice.
- Different ecosystems on the landscape/seascape and biodiversity conservation greatly enhanced.
- Improved Agricultural Outputs as a result of the adoption of smart agro-ecological practices such as agro-forestry practices, natural soil fertility restoration practices, and integrated crops/livestock farming practices.
- Income generation through development of bee products.
- 40 farmers trained on modern bee keeping technologies.
- 120 KTB hives and 120 Catcher boxes supplied to the participating communities.
- 20 farmers trained on pollinator friendly farms and gardens concept and 4 pollinator farms established in 4 communities.
