At project inception, the beneficiary village of Kerr Mamma situated in Upper Nuimi District of the North Bank Region was briefed on the planned project activities and the roles and responsibilities were discussed at length and finalised through agreements by each party.

The community of Kerr Mamma allocated a 4-hectare piece of land for implementation of the model agroforestry farm. Fencing materials was delivered to the village who have since embarked on fencing the entire piece of land.

A borehole was dug in the garden and a test pump was successfully carried out to the satisfaction of the community. Construction of the 4 water reservoirs that would serve as water outlets for the different parts of the garden is in progress. The borehole is operated by a pump that is powered by a solar panel. Early into operation, it became evident that the power requirements for water pumping could not be met by a single solar panel and an additional solar panel was procured and installed.

The nursery in which the required number of various tree seedlings would be raised has also started with the purchase of poly pots and their filling with soil is also almost completed.

5, 000 seedlings of various tree species were procured and distributed and distributed among 7 surrounding villages:
- Kerr Mamma - 2, 000 seedlings which were mainly of cashew and planted in the 4 hectare garden,
- Bafuloto - 1, 000 seedlings,
- Kerr Khebou Jallow - 400 seedlings,
- Kerr Demba - 400 seedlings,
- Kerr Kumbou - 400 seedlings,
- Kerr Jumma - 400 seedlings,
- Medina Sankano - 400 seedlings.

Due to erratic rainfall pattern for 2018, the tree plantings were carried out in the month of August. Despite this setback th entire model farm was cultivated to crops such as Groundnuts, Maize, Okra, Pepper, Cabbage, and inter planted with Cashew.

- A 5-day training of Agroforestry was conducted in August 2018 for 20 farmers drawn from the 7 villages. The objective of the training was to highlight the benefits of agroforestry as compared to mono cropping of either cash crops or food crops. The topics covered include the basic concepts of agroforestry, different agroforestry systems, choice of tree crops in an agroforestry system and various benefits associated with agroforestry farming.

A 5-day training was conducted for 20 youth selected from the 7 villages on bee keeping and the benefits associated with modern bee keeping. Topics covered included honey bee biology, hive construction, bating, harvesting techniques, processing of honey, value addition techniques and marketing strategies.

A value additions training was conducted for women of the village on food preservation techniques and included jam making from mangoes, hot source preparation from pepper, pawpaw jam preparation and tomato source preparation.
