Reducing deforestation through promotion sustainable livelihood among rural poor farmers around East Nimba Nature Reserve (ENNR)
The project is to ensure that climate smart agriculture and sustainable land management technology are carried on. The project seeks to provide direct support to Zortapa Community with livelihood interventions for the sustainability of the previous GEF ?Cane rat project? by providing feeding from corn and palm for the Cane Rat which will be purchase at a minimal cost from the community in East Nimba Nature Reserve (ENNR). And also provision of energy Saving stoves promotion to students in Zorlay community around the East Nimba Nature Reserve (ENNR).

There will be training on climate smart agriculture and sustainable land management aspect for rural farmers in two communities namely Zorlay, and Zortapa Towns respectively in the East Nimba Nature Reserve (ENNR). Training will be conducted for 48 farmers on the need to take action on climate change through environmental education.

Additionally the project seeks to introduce snails farming and palm farm to local farmers as alternative livelihood support to increase food supply and reduce local farmers? dependence on natural vegetation. The project will have a demonstration farm for simulation purpose. This could ensure that Liberia fulfills its national and international conservation obligation means. The project will also address deforestations; protect plant and animal life, through natural forest conversation, natural regeneration, and enrichment planting.

Lastly WCF will engage in the provision of solar lanterns to 800 students in zorlay Community, creating awareness in contributing to the reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, mainly caused by the use of fire wood and kerosene as the main sources of lighting. This will help improve educational outcomes and improve the overall environment for teachers and students living in the village. This is against the backdrop that many of the school going children in East Nimba Nature Researve (ENNR) rely on inadequate sources of light for studying after school hours.WCF will also engage in the training of the students on climate change smart Agriculture.
