Strengthening Agricultural Production to the Focus Group Project (SAP)
Sengcharen is a village cluster development focus group of Sanakham District, Vientiane Province, which consists of 8 villages: Nadee, Namoy, Nonnakep, Nakang, Sengcharen, Phonngarm, Phonsavart and Nasomboun. The main occupation of people here is rice cultivation as considering economic crops and livestock as a backup. Main economic crops are cassava, job?s tears, bananas and sweet corn. The local products are still based on natural support and doing upland farming rampantly, since they are shifting upland farming to cultivate rice the productivity is compared to the area is still low, due to lack of knowledge and experience in using pesticides. There are two main challenges for these farmer groups: firstly, is the use of pesticide and chemical fertilizer in agricultural production, secondly, is shifting from slash and burn into lowland rice production. Therefore, the project aims are to help the promotion on knowledge and skill of agricultural production by many forms to the farmers in this area in helping on raising awareness on sustainable agricultural production to organic farming by building a model on cropping production and animal husbandry to reduce adverse impact to environment as well as to create a job opportunity for villagers in order to solve the problem of migrant workers
