Management on the Use of Herbicide in Asing Group, Nong District, Savannakhet Province
Asing Village is under Nong District, Savannakhet Province which includes 9 villages: Asingsaly, Asingsanae, Asingna, Palienglao, Paliengnai, Kalengphou, Sen, Apok and Lader. There are 501 households with 493 families. Most of villagers are Mungkon tribe, their livelihood is based on natural sources support. The main occupation of peoples here is do farming, gardening by approximately around 2.7 hectares per family and the livestock as for a backup come to the household. According to the first data collection on the use of herbicide in industrial/cash crops in Nong District, found out that villagers used herbicide name ?Paraquat dichloride? in their industrial/cash crops around 20-25 litters/hectare. The villagers still do not meet the basic needs and their main livelihood is based on natural resources which have in place that is inherited for long times. In recently, the use of reckless herbicide is wildly practiced, which is a main cause of side effect to human health, animal, ambient environments and contamination into river stream. Therefore, the project aims to help Asing Villages to manage in reducing the use of chemical elements in industrial/cash crops with collaboration with Nong District authority to develop and improve their living standard by raising awareness on how dangerous of using herbicides and pesticides in agricultural production, will also set up the rule on chemical managing and to promote organic farming for improve their living condition.
