Conservation and Restoration Natural Resources and Biodiversity in Natural Swamp, Ban Hoaymearn, Thapangthong district, Savannakhet Province
Ban Hoaymearn, Thapathong district, Savannakhet province is far from municipality area around 175 km, with 300 family. Landscape of the village is surrounding by mountain, there is a small stream flowing through village, but this small stream cannot store water in dry season, but only rainy season. Most people in this village are farmers and merchants are less, some of teenagers are migrant workers to neighboring country. Rice farm and vegetable planting here is widely used chemical fertilizer which is risky for their living, water for using in village is well or groundwater, natural has changing every year, rain not follow by season and can call this village is in a dried zone. The remaining of this village is Nongsaluem swamp, this swamp wide, long and deep, village chief used to mobilize villagers in village to renovate swamp in order to store water for propagate fish species and do agriculture in dry season, however the result is less due to lack of fund as well as villagers cutting down the trees surrounding swamp that causing swamp dry and no aquatic fauna left. The reality of villagers in Ban Hoaymearn is they don?t understand and be aware of the problem occurred, those farmers who have rice farm close to swamp, they use chemical fertilizer, pesticides and herbicides, using those fertilizers is affecting to aquatic fauna which lead to cannot propagate. The project aims to help dissemination on how danger of using chemical fertilizer in agricultural activities, which is directly affecting to the propagate of aquatic fauna, and if the villagers understand on how sustainable using natural resources, they will be long last with them forever. Promote community participation in Nongsaluam management to improve their living standard to be better
