The project has been well performed and achieved the 4 overall and specific objectives as below:

? The ethnic minorities? knowledge and capacity have been better improved in forest management and protection and biodiversity conservation integrated with their livelihood improvement and cultural preservation through the successful performance of five activities : A project inception meeting, a preliminary project performance progress review meeting, a final project performance progress review meeting, and four seminars were organized and communication activities were effectively implemented.

? 403,37ha forestry land and forests have been allocated to local communities and 22 Land Use Right Certificates have been granted to five village communities in Nam Giai commune. The collaboration of forest management and protection between the Pu Mat Nature Reserve and Nam Giai commune has been well enhanced through the promulgation and enforcement of the Regulation 02/QC- BQL- UBND dated 4/12/2019 relating to the collaboration of forest management and protection.

?The That ethnic people?s good cultural taboos in forest management and protection have been preserved and strengthened through the support provided by the project for villages of Nam Giai commune to annually celebrate the forest worship festival at the beginning of the year (2019; 2020) in three villages: P?c, Meo, and Piêng Lâng to educate and raise local community?s consciousness of forest protection. The project has assisted the commune in issuing and implementing Decision 122/QD- UBND dated 25/10/2019 on regulations on cultural preservation in the areas of forest management and protection, natural resource protection and biodiversity conservation within Nam Giai commune.
? The model for Bon Bo plant development through a value change has been replicated to create jobs and increase incomes from forest management and protection in Qu? Phong district: The project has enabled 200 households from 9 villages of the two communes to protect, tend and grow Bon Bo plants successfully in an area of 200 ha under poor forest canopies associated with natural forest protection; the establishment of the two agricultural service cooperatives to buy Bon Bo seeds; the building of two dryers of Bon Bo seeds, other NTFPs, and other medicinal herbs to increase the value of local products and Bon Bo seeds through their value chains. The project has organized a study-visit for 23 members from the cooperatives and local government authorities to exchange experience and connect with the two Bon Bo seed buying and processing establishments in Quy Hop district.
? By performing all the activities and achieving four specific objectives, the project has achieved its overall objective of improving the capacity of forest management and protection associated with livelihood improvement and cultural preservation for the Thai ethnic community in Que Phong district, Nghe An province.
? A total number of farmer households participating in the model for Bon Bo plant development is 200, of which poor and near poor households account for 168 households, or 84% (168/200 households) including 122 poor households (61%) and 46 near poor households (23.6%). The number of the Thai ethnic households is 200 or 100%. The above results prove that due attention has been paid by the project to benefits of the local communities including ethnic minorities, the poor, and women participating in the implementation and benefiting from the project.
? The project has mobilized financial resources from local co-funding sources. Nghe An PPC and Que Phong DPC and the Pu Hoat Nature Reserve Management Board have made their commitment to co-funding the project. Specifically, Nghe An PPC issued Decision No. 2351 / QD-UBND, on June 12, 2018, co-funding VND 300 million from the provincial budget to implement the allocation of forestry land and forests as planned by the project. Que Phong DPC also issued Decision No. 161 / QD-UBND dated September 17, 2019, co-funding an amount of VND 200 M from the district budget to build 02 Bon Bo seed dryers in Nam Giai and Nam Nhoong communes. The Pu Hoat Nature Reserve has committed to co-funding VND 200 M for local forest protection by using its revenue from the payment for forest environmental services (PFES). Local communities of the two communes have mobilized local labors and materials to develop Bon Bo plants, protect forests and implement the allocation of forestry land and forests as planned by the project. This is the first time in Nghe An province where a local NGO has made full use of the provincial and district budgets to co-fund the project implementation.
