?Mejoramiento del abastecimiento de agua potable en la Comunidad Ra?aquic Campo Nuevo?- Instituto de Cultura Popular - ARG/SGP/OP6/Y3/STAR/LD/2017/03
The objective of the project was to implement adequate infrastructures in the territory of the Campo Nuevo Community and part of its surroundings to ensure the supply of drinking water to the inhabitants of the area.
The Campo Nuevo area is located about 30km southeast of the town of Pampa del Indio (Province of Chaco). Stages of deep droughts were experienced in the area.
The beneficiary members are part of the Qom indigenous community of Campo Nuevo and represent 60 families, a total of 390 beneficiaries including women, men and children.
Results: With the extension of the aqueduct, all the families of the community have drinking water in their home, in addition 16 families have rainwater collection tanks for reservoir.
To carry out the work, 15 members of the community were trained in the construction of concrete plate reservoirs and have a tool kit to later continue building. Being trained provides them with job and integration opportunities.
The biggest benefit is being able to access safe, quality water. This will also improve the health of the indigenous population involved, since the groundwater in the place has high levels of arsenic and the water from the lagoons, which they consumed when they had no other water, has agrochemicals from the fumigation of neighboring fields.
In addition, having potable water in the place where you live helps families to continue living there and to project their lives there. This improves the environment in which they are located and offers possibilities for small gardens for family consumption or for sale as a family business. All this manages to avoid the uprooting of indigenous communities.
To achieve the project objectives, the OSC formed an alliance with the local Municipality (local government) and the SAMEEP (Provincial Water Company).
