The project aim was to develop the production of algarroba-based foods, to stimulate the enrichment of the native forest, livestock production and food security of the communities of the western, in the province of Formosa.
The project was focused on generating a strategy to accompany the indigenous population through the recovery of the conservation of natural resources for the production of entrepreneurial wichi artisans.
The natural resources of the territory have been degraded by biological and socioeconomic processes. Lack of resource management by local communities leads to a shortage of raw materials for production. This project aims to improve the quality of life of people so that they can live in forests without compromising their conservation.
415 inhabitants live in El Quebracho, 253 of them correspond to the Wichí community and the rest are of Creole origin. The direct beneficiaries of the project are 40 women and 85 men.
The objective of the project was to develop food production based on carob, to stimulate the enrichment of native forests, livestock production and food security for the communities.
Results: the carob flour production center was refurbished and equipped with the necessary infrastructure to operate formally. 800 kgs of carob flour were made. 10 hectares were fenced with the objective of developing a management plan for wild carob trees and reforesting in degraded parts to ensure better production of beans. With the food workshops, the consumption of carob and other fruits was encouraged, promoting new recipes, achieving an immediate result in improving the diet of the community. A market study was carried out to encourage the commercialization of the products, with the objective of increasing the income of the beneficiaries.
