- Project was formally launched for the 6 beneficiary communities and implementation modalities discussed and consensus agreed upon. The 6 project beneficiariaries are the villages of Kuli kunda, Kantong kunda, Jomarr, Jasobo, Pakalinding and Toniataba all located within the Lower River Region of The Gambia.

- The locations of all 6 village apiaries were concluded through a participatory consultation process.

- With the provision of sand and stones through community contributions to the project, all 6 apiaries were fenced and cleared of weeds.

- Each of the 6 apiaries were supplied with cement to mould bricks for the construction of platforms for the beehives. Upon completion of the plateforms, each village was supplied with beehives. A total of 130 bee hives .

- Apiaries were identified and demarcated in 6 villages participating in project implementation namely: Kantong kunda, Kuli kunda, Jomarr, Jasoba, Toniataba and Pakalinding - all located in the Lower River Region of the Gambia. Each apiary measured 100 meters by 100 meters and located outside each village.The apiaries were done in consultation with the local authorities in the village including the Village Development Committees.

- fencing materials were procured and supplied to the 6 communities to fence their apiaries which were completed by Early June 2018.

- 3, 000 assorted seedlings to be planted in the 6 apiaries to provide pollen for the bees were raised and distributed to the 6 apiaries and planted in August 2018.

- In each apiary, a small house to serve as a store and honey processing centre was constructed with all the materials provided by the project.

- Platforms for the beehives were also constructed in all the apiaries. All 6 apiaries were supplied with beehives for a total of 130 KTB beehives:
- Kantong kunda - 20 beehives,
- Kuli kunda - 20 beehives,
- Jasoba - 20 beehives,
- Jomari - 20 beehives.

- 30 youth received training on bee keeping designed to stimulate interest among them by providing them with employment opportunities which will curb the rural to urban migration.The training covered the following topics: Socio- economic benefits of bee farming, Bee biology, Baiting methods and materials, Bee keeping tools, use and care, Hive installation and apiary management, honey harvesting methods and processing techniques, pollination and fertilization of crops by bees and Pest and disease control and management.

- 30 youth received training for 4 days on Bee product value addition techniques. The 30 youth were selected from the 6 beneficiary communities. The youth received training on both the theoretical and practical aspects of Jam making from honey, and jam making from other products such as Banana, mango, Pawpaw, groundnuts etc. They also received training on transforming bee products into body cream, soap,and wax.

- A 3-day training on entrepreneurial skills was also conducted for selected members from the 6 project communities using the local language.

- A bee marketing outlet were established and stocked with bee products to facilitate access to local markets and provide a steady source of income for the beneficiary communities.
