- The goal of the project is to combat climate change by adopting Climate Smart Agriculture in the school garden whose produce are used for feeding he school children at Sheikh Gigril Kujabi Islamic School. The project will contribute directly to high rates of school retention for pupils who hail from far away satellite villages and therefore enhance the learning environment. It will also contribute directly towards improving the nutritional status of the students by providing them with balanced diet that include vegetables produced in the school garden.

- A project sensitization was launched immediately after the first grant was received. The sensitization meeting included 78 community representatives taking part to discuss about the implementation schedule and their different roles as stakeholders. A consensus was reached at the end of the meeting in which the community representatives agreed that they would be providing the required unskilled labor aspects of the project as their in-kind contribution towards the project.

- The grantee put out an 'Application for contracts' in the local press for the award of fencing the school garden, building of water reservoirs and the irrigation system consisting of overhead water tanks and pipes. The submissions were evaluated by a team and awarded to a local contractor.

- The contractor has since carried out works on fencing of the garden which was divided into 4 plots earmarked for horticulture, animal rearing, an apiary and a tree nursery. An water tower for placing the 2 overhead tanks was constructed and connected by pipes to the garden and a water standpipe was put up in each of the 4 plots of the garden. The entrance to the garden was also fitted with a metal gate to control access.

- The existing school well fitted to a hand operated pump was modified and fitted with a submersible pump operated through solar power provided by 2 solar panels. The pump is connected to the 2 overhead water tanks of a combined capacity of 4, 000 liters.

- The school garden was divided into 4 compartments for: horticultural production, small animal rearing, tree nursery and for bee keeping. each compartment was connected to the main water supply by 4 stand pipes which were further connected to 4 concrete water reservoirs to facilitate access to water.

- Training sessions were conducted for each of the 4 project activities namely beekeeping, horticulture, animal rearing and horticulture.For the small animal rearing component, an MOU was signed with the Department of Livestock Services for the procurement of 10 ewes and 2 rams which were delivered. The MOU also included the provision of animal drugs and veterinary services. A pen house was constructed in the animal rearing component for housing the small animals.

- For the bee keeping component, bee hives and tools were procured and delivered once the training was completed. The bee hives were bated and located in the bee keeping component and outside wooded areas. A small house which would serve as a storage and honey processing centre was also constructed.

- For the horticulture component, once the training was concluded, garden tools that were procured were delivered to the school.The tools which included wheel barrows, spades, hand forks, vegetable seeds etc would be used by the school children in the production of the vegetables.
