"Community based mangrove ecosystem restoration project in Jokadou National Park".
The overall objective of the project is to restore the degraded mangrove areas of Jokadu National Park, whose ecosystem is threatened, which have been degraded either through over-exploitation or environmental hazards. The aoverall goal of the project is to conserve and protect the mangrove resources which are critical in providing nurseries for fish (a major source of protein and income for the communities), but these are threaten by unsustainable methods of oyster harvesting and exploitation for fuel wood. Furthermore, fish stocks are threaten by over fishing and reduction of the size and number of suitable grounds for nurseries. Through this project, the 2 communities (Tambana and Karantaba) will restore at least 50 hectares of degraded mangroves areas. The project will also execute environmental awareness creation programmes for the 3 schools in the area where the importance of mangrove conservation will be emphasized.
