Establishment of a functional local management system and proper handling of the PET waste packaging in Kochani
The proper waste management in Kochani as well as the usage of the benefits is at a unfavorable level due to the fact that there is no environmental awareness and habit among the population regarding the waste selection, and the economic benefit of selecting / selling of the useful waste is not recognized and the fact that by throwing the waste we throw it. Another problem is the lack of adequate waste disposal / sorting containers. There are no local systems or management approaches and proper waste treatment, most of it end up in the urban and illegal landfills without any further treatment.
The collection, transport and treatment of the small quantities of the selected waste is done by legal entities or individuals who do not comply with the legal provisions, which, of course, leads to unfair competition and causes the risk of inadequate treatment in transport. In accordance with the priorities of the GEF SGP Republic of Macedonia, more precisely the central area of Chemicals OF6 Strategic direction 4: Local with global chemicals management coalitions which is the subject of this call, this project will be directed to solid waste management, i.e. reducing the emissions of the persistent organic pollutants POPs by establishing a functional local management system and proper handling of the PET waste packaging in Kochani.
