?Enhancing livelihood through medium scale cardamom plantation in Bardo village?
Bardo village In Bardo gewog In Zhemgang District has 73 households with a population of 438 people. As per the record maintained by Gewog Administration, more than 100 acres of dry land are left fallow due to human wildlife conflict. Therefore, project has demarcated 15 acres to use for medium scale cardamom plantation at the initial stage. cooperative identified many fallow lands in the in Bardo Gewog. There is a serious need of intervention to maximize the utilization of fallow land by cultivating adverse weather resistant crop such as cardamom plantation which has high income for the rural people. The cooperative shared and discussed with the farmers on the large scale cardamom plantation in the fallow land. The proposed project will be implemented in Bardo Gewog considering the high poverty prevalence.
The primary objective of the project is to reduce poverty by enhancing the income of rural population through large scale cardamom plantation. The specific objectives are:
To convert fallow land into agro-forestry productive land
To employ native early school-leavers by engaging in the project
To enhance the income of the farmers and KNC
The expected results of the project are:
? Contribute to food security through soil fertility improvement of the fallow land
? Self-employment for the school dropouts of the collaborative farmers
? Demonstrate the cardamom plantation and drying technology
? Establish the seedling farm for cardamom
? Reduce poverty through income enhancement from the sale of cardamom and cardamom seedlings
? Contribute to the ecology through green space
