The main objective of this project is to conserve the bio-diversity in the Thalangama wetland. The project expects to make the people aware of the issues and seek their assistance for conservation work. There are a lot of impacts on the wetland and a major problem to the ecosystem is the encroachment of borders and invading the reservoir by the houses on the right side of the lake. There are many species of birds threatened by killing and a group of people are collecting eggs as this is the habit of the birds of these species (Pond Heron, Purple Coot and Little Greb).

Industrial chemicals and household wastes are added to the ecosystem and no study has been carried out on that so far to study of the harmful effect on water, soil, plants and species of animals. Heavy metals, persistent organic pollutants, and other chemicals destroy the living environment of the ecosystem, especially Arsenic, Cadmium, Lead, Mercury, PCBs, dioxins and furans can have serious effects on the wetlands. House hold waste water and industrial wastes around the Thalangama wetland ecosystem are directed to wetland ecosystems, and no proper identification has been made of such sites.

Expected Outputs:
1. Conservation of the biodiversity of 35 acres in the Thalangama wetland
2. Assessment of the impact of biodiversity on exposure of heavy metals in Thalangama Wetland and associated ecosystems and management plane to biodiversity impact assessment and a formal system has been set up to control them.
3. Organic vegetable crop expansion in abandoned in the cultivated lands (Ovita)
4. Promote co-ordination with supermarkets to promote market opportunities for organic products.
5. Enhanced understanding of the importance of safeguarding wetlands in school children
6. Increase in tourist attraction in the Thalangama Wetland area
7. Protection of livestock which is rapidly decaying in the project area
