Project is located in Gwampana and Dahwol Bob communities in Jos South Local Government. Indigenes are Berom and mainly illiterate farmers, hunters, pastoralists and small scale miners. The population is approximately 2020 with about 250 households to be impacted for start. Area has been badly degraded with deep gullies, mining pits, through erosion from the range of mountains, illegal mining activities, felling of trees and bush burning for hunting and farming purposes. The vagaries of the weather have had adverse effect on the landscape of the area and erosion has silted up the course of the only stream in the area and so no potable water. Poverty is rife here and villagers trek to far distances to farm as much of the land is no longer so arable. Project seeks to provide enhanced livelihood through the impartation of climate smart skills and empowerment to construct greenhouse for the enhancement of income through the use of improved seeds and also sale of fish and fingerlings. Land restoration will also be enabled through the acquired skills. At least 250 household members would acquire these skills and 22 directly involved in the project. There will be a transfer of the skills through knowledge dissemination and engagement of investing partners in the government and private sector. 1,000 traditional economic trees will be planted through agroecology to regenerate some of the degraded lands
The project is in line with National Priorities and objectives on Community landscape, innovative climate smart agriculture, CSO/ Community-Government Dialogue platform.
