Empowering women in Agroforestry to sustainable management of conservation f forest in important endemic bird areas in Kurumambe, Tongoa Island.
The modification of natural forest in small isalnds for subistence agriculture and village settlements expansion, compouned by destructive cyclones are threats to local endemic birds survival in small isalnds. Hwever the limited understadning on the status of these birds and the habitat requirment within the local indegenous communities will continue to be the major underlying threats when nothing will be done as thos not considered important to their dialy survival hood. This project will work with the local women in Kurumabe village within the poroximity habitat of scrub ducks and the vanuatu Royal Parrot finch to improve understanding on the birds status, their local knowlege and plan for action.
The changes to be archieved once the project reached its implementation phase are particularly the environment site of the area. This is particularly the forest as an aim of this project is to reforests the degraded area with the planting of native tree species as recommended by forestry department. This will retain the environment of the area and contribute to the vegetation and proper crop yield of the surrounding area that can help adapt to climate change issues and to contribute towards Paris agreement to reduce global temperature below 1.5 degree. Furthermore, sustainable land use planning mainly the farming techniques that is encouraged by agriculture especially agro forestry farming technique. This will help in sustainable land use of the area and the climate change resilient crops that will benefit community in times of climate change impacts.
The goal of the project is to establish a good environment for my community so they can adapt to climate change related impacts and for future use. Also to enhance their living standard.
