Establishemnt of Close- to -nature Three-Dimensional Ecological Agro-forestry Demonstration System in Jinjiang Town, Shangri-La
This Project is located in Jinjiang Town, where is classified as an absolutely impoverished village. It is the edge area of Three Parallel Rivers WHS. This area is inhabited by Puni, Han, Naxi, Yi, Bai, Miao, Yi, Tibetan, Hui and Li, to be more specific, the ethnic minority accounts for 56.7 % of the whole population. The main income sources of farmer are agriculture and animal husbandry. Overall, the annual income per capita is less than 1,569.2 RMB.
Main problems:
1) There is a big income disparity between urban and rural areas, in 2016, the per capita disposable income of Shangri-La city was 29,968 Yuan, while that of rural people was 14201.9 Yuan.
2) The trend of ecological deterioration in some are is still not reversed. In Shangri-la city, degraded grassland accounts for 55.6% of the available grassland area; soil erosion accounts for 23% of the territorial area; stony desertification accounts for 11.2% of the territorial area.
3) Lacking of sustainable development of local non-timber products
4) Intensification of mono-culture creates pressure on ecological environment and destruct traditional harvest of non-timber products and further hinder local livelihood improvement.
Solutions/Activities:
1) Establish ?Natural Bamboo Forest + Medicinal plants + Mushroom Stereo Forest Ecological Agriculture High-production System? demonstration garden
2) Provide technical training on agro-ecology and sustainable harvest
3) Promote ?Natural Bamboo Forest + Medicinal plants + Mushroom Stereo Forest Ecological Agriculture High-production System? to other villages in other places of Shangri-la and Diqing Prefecture
4) Bring private sector and academic institute to project site to facilitate the establishment of farmer's cooperative
5) Support farmer's cooperative to use and promote agro-ecology methodology and sustainable harvest technology and increase their income.
Anticipated results:
1) 5ha. of ?near natural bamboo forest + medicinal plants + mushroom three-dimensional forest ecological agriculture high-production demonstration park? established, 12000kg.of chemical fertilizer and 113kg of pesticides reduced.
2) At least 10 farmers began to adopt agro-ecology system and sustainable harvest model; 105 farmer trained and another 100 influenced
3) A farmer's cooperative established with 20 households joining
4) The farmer's cooperative cooperated with private sector and increased their income by $10997 per ha. of agro-ecology system
5) The ?Guidebook for Community Sustainable Management of Natural Bamboo Forests and Biodiversity Conservation? developed and disseminated to local farmers
6) The ?Natural Bamboo Forest + Medicinal plants + Mushroom model promoted with demonstration area increasing 10%, sustainable harvest products yield increasing10% and income increasing 20%.
