The Palace and Park Ensemble – an Area of Ecotourism and Clean Environment
Project goal: Improve the environmental situation by creating an ecotourism recreational park on the area adjacent to the Potemkin Palace ? a Belarus' historical and cultural asset and a monument of the 18th century classical architecture.
Project tasks:
1) Design and implement the park area (historical and cultural asset/Potemkin Palace) development plan based on activities carried out in the protected zone in order to improve the situation with preserving and augmenting biodiversity, mitigating negative climate change effects. 2) Renovate the boiler house adjacent to the Potemkin Palace Park in order to reduce greenhouse gas (CO2) emissions. 3) Install energy saving lamps in the Potemkin Palace protected park area. 4) Build up the capacity of the State Culture Establishment "Krychau History Museum" in the field of tourism services provision, nature protection activities in the Potemkin Palace protected park area.
Expected results:
1) the species diversity of plants in the park has been preserved and increased by 40%;
2) reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 19% (tons of CO2);
3) energy saving by 10%, including electricity 35%;
4) reduction of heating costs by USD 14,000 per year;
5) the number of visitors and tourists is increased by an average of 20%;
6) the historical and cultural value of the Republic of Belarus is preserved - Potemkin's palace and its park with a unique ecosystem
