Thanks to the great preliminary work carried out by the project team, it was possible to attract significant co-financing from the budget of the Vitebsk regional executive committee (56420 US dollars), which contributed to its successful implementation. This indicates a high degree of interest of local and regional authorities and local residents in the project results aimed primarily at combating climate change and is an important factor ensuring the sustainability of the project results after its completion.
The launch of the solar installation made it possible to achieve more comfortable living conditions in the dormitory of 280 students who currently receive hot water every day.
Implementation of the project activities will contribute to heat conservation in the hostel building, which will reduce the volume of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, improve the environmental situation in the region and allow the lyceum to save an additional 16.8 tons of standard fuel annually (according to the estimates indicated in the design and estimate documentation). This will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2.3 tons of CO2 per year (equivalent). The payback period of the project is 8.8 years according to the estimated data indicated in the design and estimate documentation, and the duration of the solar installation is up to 25 years.
The implementation of energy-saving measures at the local level and the possibility of their wide dissemination in other educational institutions will be a practical contribution to solving global problems of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
