Energy upgrading "Zimarodak Center", a rehabilitation and health improving institution for the disabled
Project goal: Reduce greenhouse gas air emission by energy upgrading "Zimarodak Center", a rehabilitation and health improving institution for the disabled persons.
Project tasks:
1) renovate the building energy supply system by installing a photovoltaic power plant as an energy source and replacing light fixtures with energy saving ones; 2) provide thermal insulation of the building; 3) adopt alternative heat sources by installing a heat pump; 4) renovate the boiler house by converting it to a new boiler equipment type with lower CO2 emissions: a gas-fired condensation boiler; 5) renovate the rehabilitation center building by adding an energy efficient facility in accordance with the latest foam polystyrene dome technology and installing a specialized kitchen in the facility for rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.
Expected results:
1. In the rehabilitation and health-improving institution of the disabled "Center Zimorodok" as a source of energy there is a working solar power plant with a capacity of 6 kW. This power plant is a source of energy for a heat pump that heats the water and the main building of the rehabilitation center and is also a source of energy for the lighting of the same building. As lighting sources, instead of incandescent lamps, energy-saving lighting fixtures based on 45 LEDs are installed in the building. 2. The main building of the rehabilitation center is thermally insulated with facade thermal panels covered with clinker tiles. Facade panels based on polystyrene foam with a thickness of at least 5 cm. The facade insulation area is 550 square meters. On the facade of the building, a part of the windows for energy-saving windows was replaced with 19 pieces. In the assembly hall of the rehabilitation center, the ceiling was insulated by spraying polystyrene with a thickness of at least 5 cm. 3. The main building of the center has an alternative heat source in the form of a heat pump with a capacity of at least 17 kW. 4. The gas boiler house of the main building of the center has been reconstructed and has gas condensing boilers with a total capacity of at least 30 kW. 5. At the wall of the main building of the rehabilitation center there is an extension built on the innovative Japanese technology of a dome house made of expanded polystyrene with an area of at least 36 square meters. The extension is completely ready for operation, it has a special kitchen for the rehabilitation of people with disabilities of the Swedish manufacturer www.granberg.se.
As a result of the project, there was a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by at least 31% (calculated on the basis of TAP 17.09-05-2013 "Environmental protection and environmental management., Climate: Emissions and removals of greenhouse gases." The rules for calculation of greenhouse gas emissions in the main sectors of the economy of the Republic of Belarus " ), reduced energy use (savings) by 70%, reduced heating costs by at least 50%.

Project Characteristics and Results
Replication of project activities
Due to the project?s implementation, 6,5 tons of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere are reduced per year. The SGP support also helped the grantee to reduce the costs of the social rehabilitation center "Zimarodak" for electricity and heat supply due to the energy saving reconstruction of the main building of the rehabilitation center. 25 social and rehabilitation institutions were informed on the positive effect of the production of a complex of energy saving reconstruction. 11 institutions showed their interest in replication of the project activities.
