Assessment of persistent organic pollutants POPS in Gaza Strip and West Bank
The project main goal is to protect the human health and to reduce, alleviate, and prevent the spread of these pollutants in the Palestinian environment.
The project main activities are:
1-Conduct two introductory workshops one in Gaza and one in West Bank to introduce the project to the relevant stokeholds from ministries and Non-governmental Institutions.
2- Establish two steering committees for the project including all stakeholders (one steering committee in Gaza and one in West Bank).
3-Prepare questionnaire and survey for data collection and analysis on POPs by the consultant and project coordinator in Gaza Strip and West Bank for all the ministries and related factories and industries.
4- Produce, print and distribute of technical report with all results and information about the POPs existing situation and recommendations (75 copies in Gaza Strip and 75 copies in West Bank).
5- Prepare and print POPs manual (1000 copies in the Gaza Strip and 1000 copies in the West Bank).
6- Take 50 samples from factories and carry out lab tests to identify and quantify the concentration of PCBs
7- Conduct two final workshops to present the project?s results and recommendations.

Project Characteristics and Results
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Prepares POPs guidelines (2000 copies), printed and distributed 1000 copies in the Gaza Strip and 1000 copies in the West Bank. The guideline would be a useful awareness tool in the awareness sessions which is planned in coordination with the Ministry of Education. The implementation of awareness sessions were dependent on the findings of field surveys about POPs in the environment. In total 20 awareness raising sessions were conducted (13 sessions in the West Bank and seven sessions in the Gaza Stip.
Inovative Financial Mechanisms
The final technical report will be considered as a reference document containing a lot of valuable information about the existing situation of the POPs compounds in the West Bank and Gaz Strip which will be used in the developing of national implementation plans the NIPs
