The purpose of the project was achieved - the Center for Community Sustainable Development and Safety was established, which became a sustainable platform for enhancing capacity for community initiatives in building safe environment and raising awareness of the possible consequences and challenges in ensuring environmental safety, raising the level of environmental and social responsibility. First of all, the strategy of the Center for Community Sustainable Development and Safety was developed; consultancy and educational mechanism for the Center?s visitors was implemented. Then the Center?s premises were finished; equipment, furniture and educational stands were installed, and the Center?s library was established. In order to raise public awareness a presentational workshop and outreach activities for community members (including students) on environmental safety and preservation was conducted. In addition, a wide information campaign on the Center?s capabilities was made.
The project is implemented taking into account the further operation of the Center after the completion of GEF SGP funding through support from local authorities and representatives of the CSO Network "Education for Sustainable Development in Ukraine" (www.ecoosvita.org.ua). During the project implementation a steady practice of providing information and advice to representatives of local self-government bodies, the public, and interested social groups is shaped. The equipment procured under the project is used to promote the principles of environmental safety, sustainable development and environmental friendliness after the completion of the project. Information products created by the project will be further used, and the literature collected will be updated and supplemented by partner organizations and institutions.
