The Keys Sand Mining Reforestation Initiative (KSMRI)
The Keys Sand Mining Reforestation Initiative (KSMRI)
The degraded state of the ecosystems in the project area, the indiscriminate sand minding has left the area vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate variation and climate change. Also, the charcoal producers indiscriminately harvest trees throughout the community thus promoting a reduction in the biodiversity and the continued degradation of the ecosystems. This includes affected part of the coastal zone. The SDA Youths & Pathfinder Club is committed to address the situation commencing with the Keys Sand Mind Reforestation Initiative (KSMRI).
(i)Reforest ten (10) acres of degraded sand mined land in the Wash Ghaut area of the Cayon community.
(ii)Educate the Cayon community on the effects of climate change on the community, the importance of the reforestation and the promotion of the biodiversity
(iii)Demarcate ( with stones) the waterway of the Wash Ghaut river in the project area.
