Harvesting and Storing Water to Adequately supply an Open Organic Farm System
Harvesting and Storing Water to Adequately supply an Open Organic Farm System
Food security has become a major issue in the federation. The Gideon Force Agricultural Co-operative Society Ltd is actively involved in the production and marketing of their organic produce. They plant a variety of crops; however they encounter some challenges in the production and sale of their produce due to the unavailability of water to adequately supply their crops.
This two phase project is intended to address the major water supply challenge so that the members can produce successfully which would directly improve the economic benefits and overall livelihood of its members, hence making the cooperative more viable.
To construct a water catchment (dam) above the farm during the first quarter of the project.
To strategically place four water tanks on the farm to collect water during the rainy season that could be used during the dry season.
Provide technical assistance training in agriculture and water conservation practices for members over a three month period
To empower the members to become competent in marketing, budgeting and money management during the last half of the project.
