Establishment of the Irma Didier Garden for the conservation of the floral biodiversity of St. Kitts and Nevis and to demonstrate soil conservation practices and the use of green (clean) energy
There has been a loss of floral biodiversity in St. Kitts following the closure of the sugar industry, further compounded by the impact of climate change. Local vegetation consisting of tropical flowers and foliage used by commercial florists and hobbyist alike which where abundantly available 15 years ago have declined in numbers and varieties as unattended sugar cane fields and estates have become overrun with weeds and vines, or have been converted into housing.
Members will propagate and prepare plants supplies from seeds, cuttings, grafting and other measures during the course of the project.
Install security fence from foraging animals and other predators which would be destructive to the gardens during the initial three months of the project.
Construction of Gazebo with single bathroom, to provide water catchment feature for irrigation of plants by first year of project.
Outreach activities to the community and public at large during the course of project implementation.
