Project Characteristics and Results

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples

Activities which were conducted by the partners of the project such as MNRE, WIBDI were all done in local language

Both women and men benefited from the project equally

Capacity - Building Component

Capacity was built during the project with green initiatives being formally developed for the youth

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

Improved livelihood opportunities such as jobs creating, talent creation and earning an income. These factors have contributed to the success of the project altogether

Project sustainability

Partners such as MNRE (Government) and WIBDI (NGO) are assisting the village with their activities to be sustainable

Policy Influence

Village by laws to ban the use of pesticides herbicides and all forms of chemicals throughout the whole village

Policy Impact

Village by laws were created to guide the use of natural resources. Tafua village is an organically certified village. Any family who plans to use chemicals/fertilisers will be discouraged to use or get a fine from the village council

Notable Community Participation

Youth are the core beneficiaries of this grant. They are encouraged to take up green jobs through using green initiatives such as organic oil making, organic farming, nurturing traditional talents of handicrafts etc. The main target group are unemployed youth of Tafua village to give them the opportunity to self employ, nurture talents and earn an income

Project Results

Landscape mapping of the village was done by the MNRE Forestry Division
? Incubator center was also launched and opened
? Launch of organic gardens and plantations
? Management plans of the landscapes and forestry was also produced by MNRE
? Consultations and workshops were also conducted for the village and mainly youths
? M&E logframe in place and awaiting implementation
