Expansion of Training of local facilitators for community-based tourism based on Heybatlu Experience
This is a project that will build on the experiences of a previous GEF/SGP/UNDP project that was implemented in the Qashqaie Heybatlou sub-tribe on community-based tourism. Community-based tourism has emerged as an alternative/additional form of livelihood for rural communities in Iran, however tribal communities have been less exposed to it so far. Considering the importance of tribal life and connectivity of the people and the land, there is a great potential to preserve the eco-cultural heritage through development of community-based tourism in tribal communities, both to reduce the pressure on natural resources as well as creating alternative/additional livelihoods. Therefore, this project aims to take the lesson learned and methodology of the previous project towards training of local facilitators in tribes who desire to develop sustainable community-based tourism. The main objectives of the project are to establish a Secretariat with representatives of tribal community members (namely, Qashqaie, Turkmen and Bakhtiari), identify local facilitators who will be trained in community-based tourism, and to prepare a training package (combining scientific and indigenous knowledge) on CBT which will be usable by other local community members.
