Identification, conservation and management of marine local commuinty management in Souza, and Qeshm fishing grounds
An important fishery area in Souza Village in Qeshm Island in Persian Gulf is threatened by private sector overfishing and using wrong methods. This area is significant because it is nearby an important habitat is of unique soft corals.
Through Community Participation an area map and a baseline will be prepared, with the checklist of the local and scientific names of fish, corals and plants and invertebrates. This promotes the Community Conserved Area protection.
Recognition by government and promoting the community conserved area management will help the revitalization of the resources and will be pursued. Collection of local conservation knowledge for community conservation of the fishery area is part of the work. As part of the marine and community conserved clusters, this project will link with other SGP project in the area for forming a local management group extending the work to three areas.
